I would definitely recommend finishing the basement staircase/stairwell; it also allows you to have a “normal” door instead of the fire rated door as access to the first floor living space . So now the door accessing the first floor can look just like all your other doors.

I actually got a check back because a couple allowance items came in under budget . I keep scratching my head reading some of the awful experiences others have had. It seems to me that Schumacher has a tight cost accounting system that allows them to be very cost effective, and able to call on their vendors to "get things done".
Install the drain tiles in the inside and the outside of the foundation walls , and install the gravel along the outside of the foundation and footers along the walkout portion of the house. After further investigating the mess removed from the shower, we noticed that although they did take the cheap route, a waterproof cover was used. We still have water damage behind the walls, but we don't foresee the company doing anything at this point.
